The community is invited to have their say on plans to carry out major maintenance next year on the Berowra Waters ferry approaches.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the proposal would close the ferry service for six weeks in 2020 to carry out the essential work.
“The Berowra Waters ferry service carries more than 23,000 vehicles and around 4000 pedestrians each month so it is important to ensure the ferry ramps are in the best possible condition,” the spokesperson said.
“The existing ferry ramps are more than 10 years old and have serviced more than 2.8 million vehicles in that time so they now need to be upgraded.
“Upgrading these ramps will ensure the local community and visitors are provided with a safe and reliable ferry service.”
The spokesperson said the new ferry ramps will extend the Berowra Waters ferry service for another 10 years which is great news for the local community.
“This work will be disruptive but it is necessary to ensure the ferry service remains in operation for years to come,” the spokesperson said.
“The local community and visitors are encouraged to have their say so Transport for NSW can minimise disruption, where possible.”
The spokesperson said feedback on the timing of the proposed maintenance work is invited until Friday 13 December and all comments will be considered.
Transport for NSW is proposing to carry out this work between Tuesday 8 April and Tuesday 20 May 2020 or between Monday 18 May and Monday 29 June 2020.
