The Shelter has seen a huge number of 62 animals – 40 cats and 22 dogs – adopted in the last week alone by kind-hearted members of our community.

According to the Companion Animal Network of Australia, adopting a rescue animal has a high number of benefits over buying from a normal pet shop. Many animals are already house-trained and ready to socialise, and you’ll be helping to create a more humane culture around pets.

Hawkesbury Mayor Sarah McMahon is encouraging readers to provide forever homes for these beautiful animals at the Shelter.

“Hawkesbury City Council receives cats and dogs from the five local government areas: Cumberland, Penrith, Hornsby, The Hills and Hawkesbury,” she said. “Our Shelter staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have about caring for dogs and cats or what their personalities are like to find one that suits you.”

At Hills to Hawkesbury Community News, we’ve run the Pets of the Week spotlight for four years. We do this in the belief that it is of benefit to both rescue animals and potential adopters. “We love supporting the Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter and hope to give these lovely animals another chance at life,” our Publisher Diana Paton said.

Pets of the Weeks can be taken home from the Shelter for as low as $29. If you’re interested in meeting any of the animals featured in this issue, the Shelter is open to visitors every day of the week at these times:
• Monday to Friday 9am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 4.30pm
• Saturday 9.30am – 11.30am
• Sunday 7am – 9.30am

All pets from the Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter come fully desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and lifetime registered with the Council before they leave. The Council encourages potential adopters to remember that pet ownership is a lifelong commitment, and that current Pets of the Week are available for adoption at time of printing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
