2159’S AGRA Scarecrow Competition Sparks Community Fun

The 2159 community is gearing up for a festival of imagination and fun, as residents, schools, and local businesses prepare for the eagerly awaited Scarecrow Competition, organised by the Arcadia Galston Residents’ Association (AGRA).

The competition invites everyone in Arcadia, Berrilee, Fiddletown, and Galston to create and display their own scarecrows on front lawns, balconies, and shopfronts. From whimsical characters to inventive works of art, these quirky creations promise to delight both locals and visitors, turning the neighbourhood into a colourful outdoor gallery.

AGRA organisers say the event is more than just a chance to show off artistic flair – it’s a celebration of community spirit. “Each scarecrow reflects its creator’s personality,” an AGRA spokesperson said. “Exploring the streets feels like a treasure hunt, with surprises around every corner.”

Prizes are on offer for the most impressive entries. In the Individual category, participants can win up to $1000 in vouchers, generously donated by AGRA, redeemable at local businesses – a win for creativity and local commerce alike.

Schools and educational institutions can also compete, with a $1000 cash prize donated by Gavan Kohen of Manor Real Estate. Last year, the school category ended in a tie, with Arcadia Public School and Galston Early Learning Centre each receiving $500 for their imaginative contributions.

The Scarecrow Competition is open to all ages and encourages everyone in the 2159 community to get involved. Whether it’s a family project, a school activity, or a business initiative, organisers are hoping for an explosion of colour, creativity, and community pride.

Registrations close on 26 October 2025, with judging scheduled for 2 November 2025.
