The recent March against Domestic Violence in Castle Hill is a powerful demonstration of a community saying enough is enough.
Castle Hill High students led the march down Castle St from Castle Towers to Castle Hill RSL.
Crime Manager Chris Laird says in the past 12 months Hills police have dealt with over 2,000 DV related calls. Of those, there have been 380 DV assault charges laid and 150 breaches of AVO orders and it is increasing.
Figures for February (the shortest month) were the highest in three years with 42 Domestic assaults in the Hills Local Command and they don’t include intimidation or stalking. In 75 percent of assault cases, a child was present or involved.
As he said: “DV thrives in silence.”
We all need to check in with Friends, workmates, neighbours and call it out.
“This is a whole of community effort.”
The DV helpline is 1800 65 64 63.
