Well, those halcyon summer days have gone, we are now on the downhill run towards winter. The leaves are still turning on a few late deciduous trees, and the faint tang of smoke in the air alerts us to the colder days ahead.

May is a busy month at our Salvos stores in Glenorie and Dural. There is a lot to celebrate, so keep an eye out for special promotions. Mothers’ Day on Sunday 12th will be preceded by a range of gifts with mum in mind. Bring the children in to shop themselves for a surprise which they can truly say they chose for mum themselves.)

We will also be honouring the ongoing contribution to our stores by our friendly and committed teams of volunteers. They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and skills in sorting quality shoes and clothing, in knowing which authors sell, in testing and tagging electrical articles, and in discerning which items of crockery, China and miscellaneous bric a brac are treasures waiting to be adopted. Volunteers Week is celebrated during the week beginning Monday 20 May.

We are always looking to recruit and welcome new volunteers to the team. If you can spare a few short hours each week to help us sort and shelve donations, you will be given a warm welcome.

On 2 May an 8 week course will commence to explore the life and teachings of Jesus. This remarkable man has left a legacy of peace, humility, love and caring for us all. His spirit has reached every corner of the world. Sessions will run between 7-9pm, with a light meal/supper provided. and everyone is warmly invited to attend. Please ring the Dural store to register your interest.

And please be on the lookout for our Red Shield volunteers whom you may see in shopping centres and community events and venues. They will be gathering monetary donations to help those in the community who are less fortunate than ourselves, and for whom the cold wintry nights can be a real hardship.

Our eagerly anticipated mid year Fashion Parade is being planned for June 22nd. Mark the date on your calendar, and watch out for more information in the June issue.
